Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature. Angiogenesis is important in normal tissue development, growth and repair and also occurs in diseases such as tumour growth, diabetic retinopathy and psoriasis.
A large area of research is involved in the study of tumour angiogenesis. Several proteins have been identified that play an role in angiogenesis. Some of the identified proteins are angiogenic stimulants such as fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), Vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) and Ang-1. Whilst other proteins are angiogenic inhibitors e.g. FLT-1, Angiostatin, Endostatin and Angiogenin.
The ImmunoKontact Angiogenesis range includes antibodies and ELISA kits to VEGF, VEGFR, Endostatin, bFGF, FGFR, Flt, Ang, Angiogenin and Tie proteins.
